I wear it around the parish when conducting business with parishioners, presiding at Liturgy of the Word or Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament services; or when teaching or attending parish meetings. I wear it as well on weekends while serving at Mass under an alb. It helps to distinguish the deacon when not vested, and allows parishioners and visitors to quickly identify a deacon when they wish to speak with him.
