One of the oldest silver coins available in the market, the Royal Canadian Mint celebrates its 35th year of striking these beautiful Silver Maple Leafs. Released in 1988 with approximately 1 million units, the Silver Maple Leaf followed its gold version, the Gold Maple Leaf.
Broadly accepted among investors and collectors, the Silver Maple Leaf carries the tradition of a renowned mint and the most advanced technology to protect the coins against counterfeiting: the RCM Bullion DNA.
The obverse design is a creation of artist Susanna Blunt, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II, the British Commonwealth Community head of state, in an elegant, simple, and mature effigy. The inscriptions that accompany the image read: “ELIZABETH II” on the upper rim and “5 DOLLARS,” “2023” on the bottom.
The reverse displays the iconic maple leaf, a national symbol. Along with the country’s name, “CANADA” on the upper rim, the coin’s information is in English and French, the official languages. They read: “9999,” “FINE SILVER,” “1 OZ,” “ARGENT PUR,” and “9999.”
The first strike of the Silver Maple Leafs in 1988 accounted for an average of 1 million coins. And this number kept increasing over the annual releases to meet the demands of investors and collectors who trust the quality and the high level of silver content within each piece. The 99.99% concentration of silver is a landmark for the Royal Canadian Mint.
The coins have a face value of 5 Canadian Dollars and legal tender status guaranteed by the Canadian Government.
The Royal Canadian Mint has developed a unique system of authentication of each produced coin to avoid counterfeiting: The Bullion DNA, which stands for Digital Non-Destructive Activation. Each coin receives an encrypted string of codes during the registration process, which is stored in the RCM’s database. Only specific scanners can read the encrypted code.
